Back to the Roots is committed to helping internationally adopted people in Switzerland. The association raises awareness of the concerns of adopted people and sensitises society and politicians to the topic of adoption.

The association was founded in 2018 by adopted people from Sri Lanka with the aim of investigating previous international adoption procedures and supporting those affected.

Numerous international adoption procedures have taken place under unlawful conditions. A conventional search for origins is impossible for many of those affected: documents are missing or falsified. Back to the Roots creates space for unanswered questions and accompanies those affected in their search for identity. The association also actively contributes its expertise to current research projects and political initiatives.

«There are two sides to every story» - When we talk about adopted people, we must also talk about those who are at the very beginning of the story: biological mothers, the families in Sri Lanka.

That's why Back to the Roots 2020 has launched the Mother and Child Reunion project. Thanks to this project, the mothers of Sri Lanka will have a voice that they have not had until now.
